Who can open a personal account?

Anyone 18 or over with a BVN or NIN. Nigerians living abroad can verify with a passport and proof of address.

Can I receive my salary or freelance income from abroad?

Which businesses can open an account?

Companies and business names registered with the CAC. Every director verifies with their BVN or NIN.

How do approvals work?

Team members with the "prepare" role create payments. They wait until someone with the "approve" role confirms them on the web or in the app. You can require two approvers above a limit.

Can I keep my personal account in the same app?

Yes. One login, separate accounts. Tap your name at the top of the app to switch between personal and business.

What does it cost to send money?

Local naira transfers are free. International transfers have a small fee shown upfront, and the rate you see is the rate you get.

About SmartTeller

We help Nigerian businesses trade with the world

SmartTeller.ng gives Nigerian companies the business account they need to get paid globally, pay anyone anywhere and stay in control of every naira and dollar.

Our story

SmartTeller started by building digital tools for cooperatives, microfinance banks and the institutions that serve Nigeria's informal and semi-formal markets. Hundreds of them now run their savings, loans and records on SmartTeller software.

Along the way we kept meeting the same people: business owners who had customers in London, contractors in Nairobi and suppliers in Guangzhou, but a bank account that only really worked at home. Getting paid took weeks. Paying a team abroad meant five apps and a lot of guesswork.

When do I get paid?

Commission is held for 30 days in case of refunds or fraud. After that it moves to your available balance. You can withdraw any time, and anything left is paid automatically on the 5th of each month.

Where is the money paid?

Into your SmartTeller personal account, in naira. From there you can spend it, send it to any bank or convert it.

How long do I earn from a referral?

For 12 months from the day they sign up with your link or code.

Do I need to sell anything?

No. You share your link and explain what SmartTeller does. Customers sign up, verify and pay in the app themselves.

Is there tax on commissions?

Commission is income. We may deduct withholding tax where required and show it on your statement.
